American Evangelicals are sending millions of dollars in donations to Africa to spread their message by funding Ugandan pastors and sponsoring missionaries, many of whom do good work: feeding the hungry and providing shelter for organs. But some of that money just goes to feed a dangerous ideology that teaches that gays, lesbians, transgender and bisexual people do not have a place in God’s kingdom and are a threat to society.

Usually when people are putting their money in the collection plate, they don’t know where that money is going. They see this poor face of an African child. The same money that a person would have given in faith, in good hope “that I’m helping”, can be used - and at times is being used - to destroy people’s lives in various parts of Africa.

Poteva chiedere verità totale sulle stragi di mafia, le stragi politico-mafiose. O forse non lo poteva fare. Poteva dire alla gente che le tasse non sono alte perchè lo Stato ci mette le mani nelle tasche, ma perchè molti non le pagano e invece bisogna pagarle tutte e chi non le paga non è un furbo da invidiare o da condonare, ma un ladro da punire e da detestare perché ruba 120 miliardi di euro all’anno agli onesti che le pagano. O forse non poteva dirlo. Poteva dire che chi paga o prende le tangenti non va candidato, va isolato e punito perché ci ruba ogni anno 60 miliardi di euro. Forse non poteva dirlo. Poteva dire che la mafia non va combatutta, va sconfitta proprio, e per sconfiggerla non bisogna accettare i voti alla mafia e non bisogna nemmeno chiederli. O forse non poteva dirlo. Poteva dire agli Italiani che le leggi e la Costituzione bisogna rispettarle, non cambiarle ogni volta a proprio uso e consumo. O forse non poteva dirlo.
Pensi se l’avesse fatto per 20 anni come sarebbe bella, pulita, prospera, ricca, presentabile la nostra Italia, e invece abbiamo perso 20 anni. Lei ha speso tutte le sue energie, la sua potenza mediatica, la sua influenza sulla gente a combattere non tanto le mafie, le evasioni e le corruzioni, ma soprattutto chi combatteva le mafie, le evasioni, le corruzioni. Se non avessimo perso questi 20 anni e tutti questi miliardi, lo sa lei oggi quante Imu potremmo togliere dalla prima, dalla seconda, e anche dalla terza casa? Ecco proviamo a fare il calcolo, ci verrà a piangere a tutti noi e forse persino anche a lei.”

20 years ago today, the Italian magistrate who was fighting the most important battle against Mafia, was killed together with his wife Francesca Morvillo and body guards Rocco Dicillo, Antonio Montinaro and Vito Schifani by a half-ton bomb placed under the motorway between Palermo International Airport and Palermo. The murder was organized by Salvatore Riina as revenge for Falcone’s conviction of dozens of mobsters in the Maxi Trials.
